South-African singer/songwriter ILONKA performs a unique blend of soulful pop and rock on her latest album "Listen Closely". Blending her Afrikaans roots with modern American pop culture, Ilonka carves a new edge for the mainstream.
ILONKA began developing her artistic persona at age 4 winning talent competitions and later gaining the attention of established artists in her hometown of Johannesburg, South-Africa.
Ambitious and unrelenting, at 14 ILONKA enrolled at the University of South-Africa (UNISA) studying vocal performance and music theory as well as singing on various demos and appearing on the independent release "10 AM Insanity".
At 16 Ilonka became a solo artist signing a deal with Global Resorts to perform at South-Africa's top casino's. Within a year her passion and drive combined with her vocal ability gave result to her first independent release "Mirror Of My Soul".
A need to explore beyond the limits of her homeland, Ilonka travelled to America in search of her destiny. Nearly 4 years after entering America thru New York City, Ilonka has written songs, formed a band, recorded an album, developed a following and fueled a fire which will spread as wildly as the spirit that drives her.
